Gambhir to miss IPL match against Super Kings

New Delhi, Mar 18 (UNI) Delhi Daredevils received a major setback today after captain Gautam Gambhir was ruled out of IPL match against the Chennai Super Kings with a hamstring injury. Dinesh Karthik will lead the side in the absence of Gambhir. ''He is going for a scan to see how bad it is. Once we assess him, only then we will know how long he will be out for. It's reasonably serious and he won't play tomorrow,'' assistant coach Eric Simmons told mediapersons here today.

''We don't know how bad it is at this stage,'' he added. Gambhir could not return to the field against the Mumbai Indians last evening after he walked off the ground during the second over of the match. The opener did not even come out to bat when his side was given an imposing target of 219 by Mumbai Indians and the hosts eventually lost the match by 98 runs. The South African also admitted that the captain plays a crucial role in the implementation of strategies during the match. ''The captain definitely plays an important role. He has to implement the strategies that have been decided in the team meetings and makes decision while the match is on,'' he added. Simmons credited the performance of Mumbai Indians yesterday saying, ''the strategy that we had for them couldn't work out and all credit to the way they played.'' The Daredvils will now play against Chennai Super Kings here at their home ground - Ferozeshah Kotla - and Simmons insisted that the team was not much bothered about how the visitors will come out and was more concerned about focussing on their own performance.
